According to Morris Maina, CEO at TransUnion Kenya, one of the handiest utensils that every CEO needs to have in their tool-rack is empathy. Yet he says it is easily the most discarded and often attracts little clamor.
Empathy creates trust, enhances engagement in the team and increases loyalty and meaningful effort. What empathy will achieve quietly in one week, hostility will not be able to achieve in years. Empathy eradicates apathy and the consistent search for wrongdoers in the workspace. Empathy embraces the humanness of the corporate world.
So, what is empathy really? Practically, empathy is something one does more than it is what one has.
When you are truly caring and communicating from your heart while being compassionate, patient, humble and listening with sincerity, you are probably showing empathy.
79% of the delegates in our last C-Wise Leaders’ Boot Camp 2024 agreed that their silver bullet in 2025 is active listening. Which is in every form a product of empathy.
Empathy does not require a solution. It only requires understanding and reflection.
